The world of social media went into mourning after Japanese dog Kabosu died at the age of 18. Kabosu, the shiba inu,  was the same dog that inspired the viral "doge" meme and cryptocurrency Dogecoin died on Friday, and her owner Atsuko Sato announced it in a blog post. The beloved Shiba Inu became an internet sensation with the creation of the Doge meme. For the unversed,  the viral photo of Kabosu took the cryptocurrency market by storm as it led to the formation of cryptocurrencies like Dogecoin, Shiba Inu, and FLOKI. Atsuko Sato adopted Kabosu in 2008 when she was sent to an animal shelter after her puppy mill shut down. Now, the question arises what happened to Kabosu or what is Kabosu's cause of death?

What happened to Kabosu?

 Atsuko Sato in her blog post wrote, "She quietly passed away as if asleep while I caressed her." It was further revealed that Kabosu was dealing with a terminal illness. The viral doge mem dog died peacefully and ‘quietly’ in her sleep in the lap of her owner Atsuko Sato. The night before Kabosu died, she ate 'her rice and drank plenty of water, as usual,' owner Sato wrote in her blog. 

Dogecoin Cryptocurrency also took to its official X handle and paid its tribute on Kabosy's death. Below is what Dogecoin wrote-

"Today Kabosu, our community's shared friend and inspiration, peacefully passed in the arms of her person. The impact this one dog has made across the world is immeasurable. She was a being who knew only happiness and limitless love.  Please keep her spirit and her family in your heart, and most importantly carry her with you as your story continues - we are all fortunate for hers to have touched and shaped ours."

Atsuko Stao in her Blog further announced, "We will be holding a farewell party for Kabo-chan on Sunday, May 26th. It will be held at Flower Kaori in Kotsu no Mori, Narita City, from 1 pm to 4 pm. If you are coming by car, please park in a nearby parking lot as there is no parking lot. We are hoping to hold a fun farewell party at Sakura Furusato Hiroba when the weather gets cooler. This was just a quick update. Thank you all so much now! We are truly grateful."
