On Thursday, 5th September, Famous Indian Actress Hina Khan revealed that she is diagnosed with a painful condition called Mucositis on her Instagram. In her post she informed that Mucositis is a side effect of Chemotherapy. She also asked her followers to suggest her some useful remedies for overcoming this disease. Hina khan is suffering from stage 3 breast cancer and is going through a lot of treatment procedures which includes Chemotherapy. Mucositis is said to be one of the side effects of chemotherapy.

In the Instagram post, she wrote, “Another side effect of chemotherapy is mucositis. Although I am following the doctor’s advice to treat it. If any of you have been through it or have known any useful remedies. Please suggest. It's really hard when you can't eat. It will greatly help me.” Her fans have supported her and suggested remedies in the comment section. One of her followers commented, “Get the treatment done, one bad piece of advice can worsen things.”

What is Mucositis?

 

An Individual gets diagnosed with Mucositis when the mucous membranes that line the mouth and entire gastrointestinal tract gets inflamed. This inflammation of mucous membranes is a common result of Cancer treatments as these treatments include radiation and chemotherapy.

This painful condition called Mucositis is temporary and can be healed on its own. This condition is painful and has multiple risks. The mucosa membrane lines multiple canals and cavities in the body but Mucositis majorly affects the digestive system, particularly the oral mucosa membrane. The patient diagnosed with Mucositis needs proper medical care and self-care.

Mucositis is a side effect of cancer treatment therapies. The therapy is designed in a way that it will attack any cell that is rapidly dividing in the patient’s body. Unfortunately, it attacks mucosa membrane of the body as well.

This painful condition can be seen in 50% of people who undergo chemotherapy and 80% to 100% of people who receive radiation therapy or Bone marrow transplants.

People can get diagnosed with severe Mucositis if they Smoke or chew tobacco, drink alcohol, are dehydrated, have protein deficiency, have a low body mass index, have dental implants or dentures, have gum diseases, have kidney diseases, have diabetes or are diagnosed with HIV.
