The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday banned senior Congress leader Randeep Surjewala over his controversial remarks against Bollywood actress & BJP leader Hema Malini. Randeep Surjewala had come under the scanner of social media after his video went viral in which he was heard talking about Hema Malini during his Lok Sabha Election 2024 campaign. Bollywood actress-turned-politician Hema Malini is contesting Lok Sabha Elections 2024 from Mathura Lok Sabha seat on a BJP ticket. Now, the question arises what did Randeep Surjewala say on Hema Malini? Below is everything you need to know-
Randeep Surjewala's comment on Hema Malini
In a video shared by BJP, Surjewala was quoted as saying, "Why people elect their MLAs/MPs? So that they (MLAs/MPs) can raise the public's voice. It's not like Hema Malini, who was elected to lick."
On outrage over the remark & ECI's notice to Congress, Surjewala accused the BJP IT cell of ‘distorting’ the clip and sharing it on social media. "Watch the full clip. What I said was that we have great respect for Hema Malini ji, who is married to Dharmendra ji, and, therefore, is our daughter-in-law," Surjewala was quoted saying.
Hema Malini had also reacted to it saying, "They should learn how to respect women from PM Narendra Modi." Hema Malini is seeking a third straight term as MP from Mathura.
