Punjabi singer & actor Diljit Dosanjh is undoubtedly among the most followed and loved artists in India and across the world. Diljit Dosanjh is busy in promotion of his upcoming movie Amar Singh Chamkila. Directed by Imtiaz Ali, Amar Singh Chamkila features Diljit Dosanjh, Parineeti Chopra & more in the leading roles. Diljit Dosanjh's upcoming movie is based on the true story of Punjab's biggest pop star Amar Singh Chamkila who was assassinated along with his wife Amarjot in 1988. The trailer of the movie suggests that Amar Singh Chamkila was called the Elvis Presley of Punjab. The movie will be released on Netflix on April 12, 2024. Recently, Diljit appeared on Ranveer Allahbadia's Podcast TRS Hindi and shared an interesting story about his upcoming movie Amar Singh Chamkila.
On being asked if he felt the energy of Amar Singh Chamkila, Diljit Dosanjh narrated a story saying, "100 percent I used of feel his energy. We shot at the same place where Chamkila was killed. Imtiaz Sir shot at the same place. Exactly at that point where he fell when he was shot. When I fell down, I was holding the Tumbi (musical instrument). Tumbi has a wire, when I fell down, the wire hit on my hand. And when I was falling, I could see my hand and blood on the ground. I suddenly felt that this is where Chamkila's blood dropped."
For the unversed, having arrived to perform in Mehsampur, Punjab, both Chamkila and Amarjot were assassinated as they exited their vehicle on 8 March 1988 at approximately 2 PM. Mehsampur is a village in Jalandhar district of Punjab State, India. It is located 16 km from Nakodar.
Amar Singh Chamkila's True Story
For the unversed, Amar Singh Chamkila is regarded as one of the best live stage performers that Punjab has ever produced and is extremely popular with the village audience. His monthly bookings regularly outnumbered the number of days in the month. Amar Chamkila is generally regarded as one of the greatest and influential Punjabi artists of all time. However, Chamkila and his wife Amarjot were assassinated along with two members of their band on 8 March 1988. The case remains unsolved.
