On Tuesday, 17th September, Atishi Marlena has got elected as the new Chief Minister of Delhi following the resignation of Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. She is been chosen by the Former Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal. Atishi has been elected as the leader of the legislature party.

On Sunday, Arvind Kejriwal had announced his resignation in a gathering of part workers. He announced, “Two days later, I will resign as Chief Minister. I will not sit on that chair till the people announce their verdict. Elections in Delhi are months away. I got justice from the legal court, now I will get justice from the people's court. I will sit on the Chief Minister's chair only after the order of the people.”

Who is Atishi Marlena?

Atishi Marlena is the 43-year-old Aam Admi Party MLA from Delhi’s Kalkaji assembly seat since 2020. She was elected as the Minister of Education of Delhi. She has completed her studies in the Oxford University, she has played the role of Sisodia’s advisor as well. Atishi is an Aam Admi Party MLA since the year 2020. She has been associated with AAP since the beginning. 

In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Aam Admi Party had filed her from the East Delhi seat but unfortunately, she was defeated by GAUTAM Gambhir of the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP).

Atishi was raised in Delhi, India. She has completed her high school from Springdales School, Pusa road, New Delhi and then she got graduated from St. Stephen’s College. After that she went to Oxford University and completed her Master’s Degree in History on a scholarship in 2003. In 2005 she went to Magdalen College, Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar.

Atishi has worked as a teacher at Rishi Valley School located in Andhra Pradesh. She also joined an NGO named Sambhavna Institute of Public Policy. In the year 2013, Atishi joined the Aam Admi Party. After the 2020 elections, she was made the in-charge of AAP for the Goa Unit. Atishi was a firefighter in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. She has also been closely associated with the Jal Satyagraha in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh held in the year 2015.


Delhi minister and AAP leader Gopal Rai said, "When he (Arvind Kejriwal) decided to resign, legislative party meeting was held today. In the meeting it was unanimously decided that until the next elections, that we want to be held in October-Novemver at the earliest, and people make Arvind Kejriwal the Delhi CM with a thumping majority, Atishi would carry out the responsibilities as the new CM."
