On Thursday, 5th September, The Perfect Couple, directed by Susanne Bier, an American mystery drama series was released on Netflix. The series has a total of 6 episodes. This series has grabbed a lot of attention from the viewers because of its interesting storyline and talented cast.

The plot of the story revolves around 'The Wedding of the Year' at the Nantucket residence. However, before the couple gets married, Maid of Honor Merritt Monaco dies.

Merritt is shown lying face down in the water. This murder of Merritt Monaco had left the audience in suspense. The viewers were eager to know, how did she die and what was the reason behind her murder? So, Here’s the spoiler. 

Who killed Merritt Monaco?

On the night of her death, almost all the members of Winbury family interacted with her. Initially, Tag Winbury who had an affair with Merritt seemed suspicious because he found out that she was pregnant and was happy. But later on, he changed his mind. This change of mind made Merritt upset. But this is not the reason of her death.

As the story moves forward, audience starts to doubt shooter as he attempts to escape. His finger prints were also found on oyster-shucking knife. Thomas also becomes a suspect because of his drug-stealing habits. But eventually, in the final episode of the series, Abby is revealed as the killer of Merritt. 

Why did Abby kill Merritt?

In the last episode, its revealed that all the three Winbury sons will inherit a very large amount of inheritance money from the family but they will only be able to acquire their inherited money once the youngest Winbury son named Will in the series, turns 18 in a few weeks.

If Merritt gave birth to the fourth son of Tag, then the three brothers would have to wait for more 18 years for getting the money and the sum would have also split among 4 people instead of 3. Abby knew all this.

On the night of Merritt’s death, Abby crushed some euthanasia pills and mixed them into the orange juice. She spotted Merritt alone and gave her the orange juice after which they both went to swim. Abby drowned her in the ocean and because of the pills, Merritt was not able to fight back. Before killing Merritt, Abby said, “If you want something done right, you just have to do it yourself.”
