Who is Maha Vishnu?
Mahavishnu is a spiritual guru and the founder of the Paramporul Foundation. A case was registered against Mahavishnu under sections 192 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 196(1)(a) (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, language etc.), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 353(2) (spreading false information that can promote enmity or hatred) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), and Section 92(a) (intentionally insulting a person with disability) of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act. The arrest was based on a complaint from a member of an association for the welfare of specially-abled people.
Mahavishnu was invited to give a guest lecture at the Government Higher Secondary School in Ashok Nagar in the city. Mahavishnu in his lecture claimed that deformities such as blindness and social inequalities were the result of sins committed in past lives.
Notably, Mahavishnu was confronted over his remark by a visually impaired teacher. The visually impaired teacher named Shankar questioned Mahavishnu over his controversial remarks. As per reports, Mahavishnu responded by belittling the teacher, dismissing his objections and questioning his qualifications to challenge him. "Gurukulams were systematically destroyed by the British. Just reading a mantra can cause fire rain, heal one's body, can make you fly, but all these secrets which were written on palm leaves were lost due to British rule," said Mahavishnu in his viral speech adding, "If God was kind, everyone should be born equal. One is born rich while the other is born poor. One is born a criminal while the other is born a hero. Why such differences? What you did in your last birth, you were given this birth."
