Punjabi singer AP Dhillon is in India these days for his multiple city concerts. AP Dhillon has already broken the internet multiple times during his concerts in India. First, AP made headlines for bringing 'his first crush' Malaika Arora onto the stage, then in another concert, AP brought Yo Yo Honey and Jazzy B onto the stage. Last but not least, AP broke the internet when he indirectly called Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh 'fake' and accused him of blocking him on Instagram. Now, AP Dhillon has revealed that he will not sing in any Bollywood songs despite the fact he enjoys a massive fan base in the Hindi film industry.
AP Dhillon recently appeared in Ranveer Allahbadia's podcast where he revealed that he does not want to be a 'ship' whose ultimate end goal is make music for Bollywood. Below is an excerpt on what AP Dhillon said-
"We were making a Hindi song last night," said AP. On being asked whether for a film, AP said, “No. I am keeping myself away from films. I just don’t wanna sell my music. Let others do whatever they are doing, I wanna set an example for upcoming artists. Till then their business doesn’t get set, I won’t sing in movies."
"From a business perspective, he (his manager) is saying it will be good for marketing purposes. Of course, the budgets are higher they push you so much higher. Your listeners are gonna go up, and streams gonna go up. I don’t wanna leave that as a legacy," added AP Dhillon.
On this, Ravneer said, "It means you have a vision for yourself and right now you won’t be singing for any films."
'Rejecting Bollywood movies offer for past 2 years'
AP further said, “Yes, it was really hard to say no to some people. It’s not even their fault. I will not fit in being a sellout...If 10 people are doing the same thing, I do the same, what example will I set for the upcoming artists?"
"…sometimes you gotta eat less to bring change. I have been denying movie officers for the past 2 years. I have been burning down my own bridges. Just because I don’t wanna be another sheep. Once there were 8 Punjabi songs in the top 10. For example, those songs were mine. Now, that’s an example itself that you don’t need their promotional push. You can stay true to your art. I am not saying working with a film is a bad idea. It’s a great opportunity and if you can add your art in other director’s art, it’s a great idea. Sometimes what they want doesn’t fit with you," AP Dhillon concluded.
