The much-awaited series in the US & Mexico, Women in Blue aka Las Azules will be released on Apple TV+ on July 31, 2024. Women in Blue aka Las Azules is a 10-episode series co-created, co-written, and co-directed by Fernando Rovzar. Women in Blue creator Fernando Rovzar reportedly stumbled across the story in a newspaper article and tracked down one of the original women in blue. Fernando Rovzar was quoted by a newswire saying, "I wanted to tell the story of adversity,” adding, "Mexico’s about to celebrate our first female president and I think that there’s a line you could absolutely draw from the first female police department to this historic event." Talking about Women in Blue's characters guide, the Apple TV series features Barbara Mori, Ximena Sariñana, Natalia Tellez, Amorita Rasgado, Miguel Rodarte, Leonardo Sbaraglia, Christian Tappan, Horacio Garcia Rojas, and more in the leading roles. Now, the question is whether Women in Blue is a true story or not. Below is everything about Women In Blue True Story-

Is Woman in Blue a true story?

The answer is yes. Woman in Blue is inspired by true events that revolve around Mexico's first four women Police officers who were inducted into the force in the '90s. Set in the 1970s, Barbara Mori plays Maria, Amorita Rasgado plays Gabina, Ximena Sarinana plays Angeles, and Natalia Tellez plays Valentina.

The official synopsis of the movie reads, "Set in 1971 and inspired by true events, Women in Blue tells the story of four women who defy the ultraconservative norms of the time and join Mexico’s first female police force, only to discover that their squad is a publicity stunt to distract the media from a brutal serial killer. As the body count grows, María (Bárbara Mori), whose determination to catch the killer becomes an obsession, Gabina (Amorita Rasgado), whose father is a renowned cop, Ángeles (Ximena Sariñana), a brilliant fingerprint analyst, and Valentina (Natalia Téllez), a young rebel, set up a secret investigation to achieve what no male officer has been able to do and bring the serial killer to justice."

When did Mexico start inducting women into Police forces?

As per causaencomun.org, women were admitted to Mexico's police corporations in the 1930s. The group was named 'Female Police' and it was reportedly made up of 69 women. At that time many women officers were inducted to carry out administrative tasks. Overall, they now represent around 20% of the total police force of the country.

However, since the series is set in the backdrop of the 1970s and the maker made the story based on meeting real-life 'women in blue', it can be said that the storyline is based on women officers who were deployed on the field.

Notably, the makers have also induced a pinch of fictional elements in the series. Fernando Rovzar was quoted saying, "While we have a female president, and that’s an incredible advance in Mexican way of life, at the same time I live in a country where ten women are murdered every day because they are women. I think you can’t possibly have these two extremes and not reflect on where we’ve come from and where we should really pay attention."
