In a major development, Canada's Peel Police has arrested a 22-year-old man from Punjab. The 22-year-old youth is named Arshdeep Singh and he has been accused of raping 3 women within a month. As per the Peel Police, the accused used to trap women by posing as a rideshare operator and then take them to deserted places and rape them.
Canada Rideshare Operator Rape Case
As per Peel Police, Arshdeep came to Canada from Punjab on a study visa in December 2022. He was living in Brampton city of Canada. Peel and Yak police started a joint operation to solve the case. The victim women said that the youth used to talk in Punjabi in between after which the police started questioning youths of Punjab origin. On November 27, the police nabbed Arshdeep Singh.
How Arshdeep Singh was arrested by Peel Police?
November 8, 2024 - Around 7:00 am (Canadian time), a woman was standing at a bus stop (Countryside Drive and Broomley Road, Brampton). The driver of a black 4-door sedan car introduced himself as a rideshare operator. He took the woman to the city of Vaughan (Highway 27 and Nashville Road) and raped her.
At 7.45 am on the same day, another woman was at a bus stop at Gorridge Crescent and Via Romano Way (Brampton). The accused took her to Highway 50 (south of Gore Road) and sexually assaulted her.
On November 16, 2024 - At around 6:45 am, a woman was standing at a bus stop near Airport Road and Humberwest Parkway (Brampton). The accused took the woman to Countryside Drive (near Airport Road) and raped her.
3 cases registered against Arshdeep Singh
Three cases have been registered against the accused. Sections of sexual assault, sexual assault with a weapon, sexual assault by strangulation, robbery, and threat have been added. Arshdeep has been presented in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton. The police have appealed to the public that if anyone else has any information related to this accused, then they should contact the police immediately.
Police recommend that members of the public do not accept any unsolicited offers of transportation from anyone unknown to them.
